On the Importance of Developing a Cosmology
There is a tiger haunched in the long grass waiting to pounce on you, but fortunately your hindbrain has an inbuilt trigger
It jacks you into a sympathetic nervous state, and you have two strategies
You fight or you fly, but you live to see another day
This reaction is useful with a predator, but the same reaction occurs when confronted by all threats Even one threat that we rarely consider.
Now this kind of threat may not be obvious, but over time it gives you that feeling of disquiet, your body never fully leaves that sympathetic nervous state. That subtle tinge of anxiety ever-present, like something is misplaced.
This come from the feeling of Existential threat…
And the number 1 way to quell this feeling of existential threat is to develop a well articulated cosmology
Without a well developed cosmology, you don't trust life itself, and without trust, that sense of threat grows.
Developing a cosmology gives you the understanding for a true quality of life. It gives you impetus and meaning to evolve and become, especially when things get hard.
From Cosmology you develop your Mission
and from Mission you develop your Great Work
And your great work is the gift you are here to give.
A cosmology usually refers to the origin of the universe, but I would go further and say you need origin, destination, purpose, structure, function, patterns, characteristics, relationships, and more.
The goal is to try and create as whole and cohesive picture as you can.
You use the tools at your disposal, and your own intuition.
And, through understanding comes catharsis.
